PBC Shea Limited has a state-of-the –art manufacturing plant that is designed to process 200mt of shea nuts a day into shea butter to produce 100mt of shea butter. In the production process, the shea buter is extracted by a mechanical process and a chemical process.
The shea nuts are cooked till they become soft enough for pressing. The cooked nuts are dropped into mechanical presses where the first stage of butter extraction takes place. The residue after pressing for butter (press cake) is then conveyed to a chemical extraction plant where hexane is used as solvent to extract more butter.
The butter from the two streams are blended and filtered before being dried under vacuum. The dried butter is transferred into storage tanks awaiting filling into drums, tankers and boxes for sale.
The company is equipped with a world-class laboratory which has IR analysers, rotavapor and spectrophotometer for analysing the raw shea nuts and the shea butter.
